Theme 4: Community and Town Identity

I’ve had theater managers here from Broadway and major theaters in major cities. They come here and look at this community, and they look at Gettysburg College and they look at the Majestic Theater, and they say, “This is a jewel. You have a theater. You have two cinemas. Your restoration is an absolute work of art. You do great programming.”

A Community Place

My wife and I moved to Gettysburg, recently, and the Majestic Theater is one of the reasons. We walk to the theater almost weekly to watch enlightening movies, to see shows which enrich our world, to see opera from the Met, and to see educational artwork displays. Thank you so much for all you offer our community.

A Match Made in Heaven

Gettysburg College has played a huge role in the success of the Majestic Theater. When the College purchased the theater and adjoining Gettysburg Hotel in 1988, it began on the path towards the renovation and restoration to help the Majestic Theater become what it is today.

With this relationship still thriving, the Majestic Theater remains an invaluable asset to the College and its students. Many students performances are held on the Majestic stage, from musicals and stage shows to concerts from the Gettysburg College Sunderman Conservatory student ensembles.

Our Cinema, Our Town

We watched “It’s A Wonderful Life” at this theater last December. It’s such a beautiful theater. It’s very well maintained and such friendly staff. The lobby is like a postcard. It was a wonderful experience!

There are not very many other small theaters that are able to do what we do,
and it’s all because of the College’s backing and the community’s appreciation.
